A Journalist Asked Us About the US TikTok Ban

Here’s what we think

A journalist from an Italian newscast recently asked for our opinion on a hot topic: the US TikTok ban.

How will it affect us as entrepreneurs who use TikTok to connect with our American audience?

Good question.

We launched our Local Aromas TikTok channel relatively recently. Well, technically, we created it a while ago but only started using it consistently about a year ago. And we absolutely love it!

Through TikTok, we’ve met so many amazing people - some even in person. Every week, we dedicate two full days to hosting free 20-minute Zoom consultation calls for people traveling to Italy, and many of them come from our TikTok community.

Not to mention the incredible people who have joined our food and wine experiences in Italy or those we’ve bumped into while walking through the city center of Rome.

So yes, if we were cut off from our American friends on TikTok, we wouldn’t be happy.

BUT … there’s always a but.

TikTok isn’t the only place we connect with our community.

This week, we celebrated a huge milestone on another one of our favorite platforms: YouTube!

We’re excited to announce that we’ve surpassed 10,000 subscribers on our Local Aromas YouTube channel!

Launched in 2018, our 100% made-in-and-about-Italy channel has survived three lockdowns and even undergone a complete makeover. If TikTok isn’t an option, YouTube (and YouTube Shorts!) is another fantastic way to stay in touch with us.

And then there’s Substack!

We’ve quietly been building our presence on this super versatile platform that blends newsletters with social media and chat features. As we continue finding our voice here, we’re loving it more and more.

Let’s not forget our longstanding platforms, Facebook and Instagram, which we’ve been using since Local Aromas began in 2016.

Our favorite spaces? TikTok, YouTube, and Substack.

But then, there’s one place that’s closest to our hearts - our Home, Casa Local Aromas.

It’s our inner circle, our private community, and where we spend the most time.

It’s a gathering place for people who love Italy, want to stay connected to their Italian roots, and enjoy learning about Italian culture and language.

In Casa Local Aromas, members become Family.

We have our private community platform where we post and chat. Plus, every Sunday, we meet via Zoom for fun family activities: live cooking classes with our mom, wine tastings with Benedetta, family movie nights discussing iconic Italian films, meet-and-greets with special local guests, game nights, and family get-togethers.

Oh, and every year, we explore six Italian regions together.

In 2024, our Family learned about the dishes and hidden gems of Lazio, Liguria, Sicily, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Molise, and Tuscany.

This year, we’ll be diving into the culture, food, and treasures of Umbria, Campania, Lombardia, Puglia, Veneto, and Basilicata.
