This is probably one of the most confusing things when it comes to Italy’s fried rice balls.
Rome has supplì ... and BTW, you should never leave Rome without trying one!
So, what is a supplì?
It’s a crispy fried rice ball cooked with ragù or tomato sauce and stuffed with mozzarella.
Look at Benedetta and Valeria eating one in Rome. 👇
(Actually, we had way more than one!)
Oh, yes, I’ve had arancini before.
No, these are not arancini. Those are from Sicily. The rice in arancini is not the main character of the dish … it just serves as a container for the succulent meat ragù with peas stuffing. It is then breaded and fried.
Look at us in Sicily having an arancino (as they are called in southern Sicily) or arancina (as they are called in the north of Sicily). 👇
So PLEASE don’t call supplì “arancini” and stop debating over this!
Supplì speak of Rome, while arancini tell the story of Sicily. Period.
There is no winner!
They are both delicious and Italians love their diversity.
Remember, food 💗 should ❣️ bring 💞 people 💘 together.

One of best memories from our first trip to Rome, was following a heavenly smell down a back road and finding Supplizio. Amazing!
