When Rome is Asleep

And you are the only one around

30 September 2021.

It was my son Federico’s 18th birthday and I wanted to do something special.

Let’s say … unexpected!

I woke the entire family up at 4:30 am 🥱 and told them to get dressed. 😳

They had no clue …

30 minutes later, a private driver-guide came to pick us up.

We were about to start our Sunrise Tour of Rome! 🌞

Exploring Rome when locals and tourists are asleep is a PRICELESS experience.

For 3 hours, our driver-guide, Francesco, took us to the main sights in Rome.

We stopped, took pictures, listened to the stories of the piazzas and monuments, and made unique family memories.

✅ Piazza del Popolo
✅ Colosseum
✅ Castel Sant’Angelo
✅ St. Peter’s Square

And we were practically the only ones there.

Just before sunrise, we stopped at a local café for a cappuccino and cornetto.

Then we headed to our grand finale … watching the sunrise from a hilltop in Rome.

Quiet. Breathtaking. Priceless. 🙏

As Francesco drove us back home at 8 am, the first people were just starting to appear on the streets.

Their day was beginning.

Ours had already been filled with a 3-hour, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
